post 298

happy hari raya, everybody!

every year, the end of the fasting month feels like a new start to me
for starters, it's the start of being able to eat in daylight again
haha
and there's also the feeling of being more empowered and in control of yourself
and that's a good thing!

exactly one month ago, i was up at 3 in the morning
writing very shocked and angry words in my blog
because of some extreme racism i'd found in some forums
couldn't publish it because of blogger problems

but since raya is tomorrow
i'd just like to say that i forgive these people
yes - forgive! - because they're simply ignorant
and you can't blame stupid people for being stupid if they haven't had education, right?
(sorry, it's just an analogy; it's not meant to insult them as "stupid")

thus, pearls and gems of forgiveness are being merlion-ed from my mouth (or fingertips) and being teleported across continents to these sad, unenlightened people
may they find the truth one day soon
ameeeeeennnn...

haha
on a lighter note, i love my new shoes!!!
after trawling through vivo and bugis, i finally found them last tuesday at seiyu
black and white houndstooth-patterned peep-toe pumps with wooden heels
they look so smart!
i usually spend like $40 tops for raya shoes
so going $20 over ain't that big a deal
(my sis, on the other hand, got guess shoes... lucky b!)

i've totally finished cleaning my room
it's the neatest one in the house now muahaha
bright new sheets, everything neatly arranged in boxes or stacks, fairy lights adorning my windows, theo walcott pin-up up beside my fabregas one (swoon!) and vacuuming all done
phew! all in a week's work
so i'm really hoping the celebrations are worth the clean-up!

(forgetting the fact that i'll reach home around 12, and i have school and yoong's consultation the next morning...)

so happy raya day/month, everybody!!!!

this song has been stuck in my mind for the entire week!
it's called hero's song by brendan james, my new favouritest of all favourite singers
ch-ch-check it out!

Hero's Song
by Brendan James

Here I am
In the desert again
A compass and a weapon
A lost American

I started out with a simple plan
And a locket in my hand
But the sun is so unforgiving
And the wind so hard to stand

Fall out, fall out
With the rest of your brothers
With the rest of your sisters
Heroes on the line

Carry out what your leader says
For what his leader says
Is that his leader says
This is right for the people

No one will ever understand why
Thousands of beautiful healthy young statues must fall
Smoke and explosions surround me
A flood of hate, it drowns me
I cannot live this way
No I cannot live with
Doubt and Confusion - they find me
They run up right behind me
I cannot die this way
No, I cannot die this way

In the water, in the sand
Is the blood of a culture
Is the blood of an ancient people
In whose holy war I stand

I hear the world like a cannon roar
Say I can't win this war
I promise them
This is not what I signed up for

No one will ever understand why
Thousands of beautiful healthy young soldiers must fall...

Smoke and explosions surround me
A flood of hate, it drowns me
I cannot live this way
I cannot live with
Your doubt and confusion - They find me
They run up right behind me
I cannot die this way
No, I will not die this way

it seems i have a little bit of low blood pressure
how little (or how much) i don't really know; the doc never said
but some of the symptoms i've been experiencing, hitherto unexplained, now see the light of revelation
eureka!
haha

now i don't think it's very serious, or i'd be dead or something
but finally it seems that i can be unwell with something other than flu
see, i'm not so boring after all!

with low blood pressure, sometimes the blood pressure isn't enough to deliver enough blood to the organs in the body
so the organs don't work too properly
in the bad cases (not mine), the organ can be permanently damaged

like if there isn't enough blood to the brain, i'll feel lightheaded or dizzy
sometimes this happens when i stand up after sitting or lying down
and sometimes it happens in the middle of walking or after standing for very long
(is this usual? i have no idea)
if there isn't enough blood to my heart, then i get the chest pains, or angina

relating to me, i think my low blood pressure is caused by dehydration
'cause i don't drink enough water, apparently
also, i think i also have another form of postural hypotension, where my autonomic nervous system responds wrongly to prolonged standing, and orders my heart to slow and veins to dilate
(i knew i was a bit weird)

so i guess my case isn't too bad
just something wrong with my inherent self

bahh
i'm so weird!

fin*

p.s. does less blood to the brain explain why i'm so lousy at studying?
cos that would help explain a lot! haha

p.p.s. i gave my room a long overdue overhaul
arranging my notes that had gotten mixed up in the course of exams
and re-arranging my room so i can use the dressing table as a study table
and i guess a slight allergy to the dust is what resulted in my little flu
dayum i need to clean up the dust!

indeed it may be rude to call a donkey an ass, but it would be a lie to call it otherwise.

yay i've got two movie dates to watch twilight!!
i'm afraid that's not enough, and i really can't wait for twilight the movie!!!

i know, i know, i've been ragging on some of the characters for not being perfect enough
but i still can't wait to see it on screen

yay yay yay
hope it comes out satisfactorily

and i like the peeps who are playing alice and jasper
they're so cute together
real chemistry, especially from their interviews together

can't wait can't wait can't wait

fin*

p.s. i seriously have nothing else to talk about, huh?
okay, let me try talk about something else...
*coughs* reading the history of malaya right now
not the official one, but one that recounts back to 1880
really interesting
like how the malay people came from central asia around 2000 bc
which is a really long time ago!
and the orang asli came way before that, spreading out even further to australasia and other islands
enough of history? no? want more?
okay...
umm, the mutiny in singapore by the 5th light infantry was in 1915, february, if i'm correct
they were supposed to be guarding the german pows since the WWI was going on

i guess that's enough for now.

twilight twilight twilight!

ok, after watching so many different twilight trailers, all official, fan-made with official cast, and fan-made with preferred cast, perhaps robert pattinson isn't so bad as edward

i'm not saying i completely agree with him 100%, or maybe even beyond 60%, but he's ok
he darn un-photogenic, with darn ugly hair in real life, with a rather peculiar face shape,
but he acted american pretty okay, and pretty intensely too

that said, i think tom sturridge wouldn't have been as bad a choice
he really really has the vampire look down pat, even without trying

and jasper! gosh that jackson rashbone person has such horrible hair

i won't say anymore.
i'll wait till the movie comes out, before making anymore critical comments, because i realise my comments have been on the rather extreme side...
sorry! a flaw i must correct!

but but but i seriously don't think i'll take back my judgment that the actress playing rosalie is the worst actress they could have picked
really ugly and bloated looking- how's she supposed to play the most beautiful woman in the world?

sorry i'm so negative!

WARNING: the male-concentrated content may be too much for some to handle ==>

oh no, forgot to warn steph about twilight spoilers!!!
i'm so sorry!!!

so, for this blog entry, i shall post about more recent twilight developments
like... the movie!!!

i so do not agree with robert pattinson as edward
even from the harry potter movie, i didn't agree with him as cedric
his face is just too weird to me

so i scouted around, and the following are pictures of people who - to me - fit the image of the twilight characters in my mind
the current ages of the actors may not correspond; i'll simply post pictures of them that seem to fit, regardless of when it was taken

not everyone's here, of course
like bella, because i think kristen stewart fits the bella role
or carlisle, simply because i haven't found anybody fitting his description

behold, the chosen-by-fina partial cast of twilight...

name: unknown (unfortunately)
cast as: edward, if his hair wasn't blond
why?: isn't it obvious? the flawless, pale, marble skin, the golden (not deep red) eyes that are characteristic of vampires that drink only animal blood, the piercing gaze, like he's reading your thoughts...
admit it, he is perfect as edward lol
the blond hair could have cast him as carlisle, except for the fact that he lacks the inner calm that carlisle exudes

&
name: tom sturridge
cast as: edward (yep, the first guy's competitor)
why?: well, the first picture make him look human, maybe portraying how he was when he was human, around 1918.
the second picture really makes him look like edward.
someone photoshopped in the bronze hair and golden eyes, and there's the pale skin and strong jawline.
it's so hard to choose! haha

name: gaspard ulliel
cast as: jasper cullen, one of edward's brothers
why?: i don't know exactly why, but jasper always seemed a little rugged, a little lean, but still actor-like handsome.
definitely not an edward face, though.
the actual actor playing jasper seems nice-looking enough, but his hair in that movie is simply crazy!
and nothing in the book says that jasper is supposed to look like a freak, unlike in the movie!
*shudders*

name: colton haynes
cast as: either edward, or emmett cullen, another of edward's two brothers
why?: he was originally up for the role of edward, i think, but his very strong jaw and features just whispers emmett to me. or maybe not; i'm on the fence for this guy, because he seems pretty fitting for edward too, since i don't imagine edward to be as skinny as the first guy.
whaddaya think?

name: henry cavill
cast as: emmett cullen
why?: stephanie meyer said that this guy's the only one she can imagine playing edward, but his age of 27 makes him too old to do so.
i think in some ways he may be right for the role, but somehow his face seems too square for edward. more suited for emmett, who's supposed to be the strong dude of the family

name: alex pettyfer
cast as: i seriously have no idea
why?: he's darn good-looking, though, isn't he? (i'm kinda reminded of fernando torres when he had short hair) i'm torn between jasper, carlisle (maybe, if he were older) or maybe even edward. bahh - doesn't matter; i'm not the casting agent, so i don't have to decide.
yay

anyways, maybe the aforeposted pictures will pique more human interest in the twilight movie.
maybe not.
but looking for pictures is fun!

alice is perfectly cast, imho. she's superbly beautiful, like all other vampires, and so pixie-like and cute in her short spiky hair
rosalie - *huff* what can i say? who else can be more wrong for this role? not as astoundingly beautiful like the book describes her. darn disappointed.

jacob, i think, is adorable, played by taylor lautner
except for the fact that he looks weird in a long wig
i would have liked to see jason momoa (when he was 14 years younger) as jacob, because he's so sunny in his smile.

jason momoa

but unlike taylor lautner, who actually has native american blood, jason's actually hawaiian.
so i don't know. whatever.

p.s. going twilight-crazy!

290th post

i've finished reading breaking dawn, the last of the twilight saga
joy!
and i take it back, maybe jacob and reneesme (i still can't believe how funny that name is) really are right for each other

he's like a werewolf - not the children of the moon, but a shape-shifter who takes the form of wolves because his ancestors had chosen to do so
close to 7 feet tall (that adorable freak!)
so humorous and mostly happy
won't grow older beyond the physical-age of twenty-five that he is now
(unless he can stop phasing into a wolf for a solid period of time - then he ages)
even though in actual human years, he's only 16, 17 years old

she's half-vampire, half-human
and she grows very fast - only 7 years from newborn baby to full maturity
very intelligent, compassionate, and with supernatural abilities of her own
and we know for sure she can live to over 150 years
and since jacob can't grow old unless he wants to... guess they're perfect for each other.

*sigh*

there goes my entire rant on how jacob deserves so much better
because i doubt that in my wildest imagination could i have come up with a better complement to jacob
of course, i haven't seen the mature reneesme yet
i wonder how that will work out...

fin*

p.s. there's the return of the contenders, muay thai fights, in jurong on wednesday
soren (!!!), zach, naruepol, yodsaenklai will all be fighting, among other world class fighters
*shriek!!!*
i truly wanna go!
but the cheapest tickets are at $50.00
unbelievable
i guess even a small gathering of my favourite fighters is too much to hope to see
since when did the contender asia grow so uncontrollably popular?
so much that even with only four of the original 16 fighters present, the tickets are more than half of what i'd paid to watch the finale months ago?
never thought i'd ever begrudge the contenders their fame, but popularity sure has its downsides...

i'm so stuck on the twilight saga by stephanie meyer!!!!
i've devoured two of their books in the last two days, and i'm on track to finish the last one today. i'm still not near the halfway mark, but it's near enough to the end of the series that i'm lamenting the fact that i still want more, and of that there is none.

after i finished the first one, i read reviews of the other ones online, and was genuinely surprised that there were two camps- Team Edward and Team Jacob. i didn't think that there was enough reason to support jacob other than the fact that he was adorable. i mean, understandably, jacob was only 15 in the first novel, little more than a peripheral character who had a crush on bella like any other male in Forks. but after reading new moon (the second book), i'm all for team jacob! and not in the way that i want edward and bella to break up, just that i think the ending does not do him justice.

in edward and bella's case, when reading the series, there is just the sense that this pair is inevitable, that they were made to simply be with each other. they were just so solid together, almost from the very beginning. when edward left bella in new moon, i was devastated; i cried as if it was my own soulmate that i'd lost - so intense were bella's feelings.

but reading about how jacob helped bella heal in that novel, when she did eventually meet up with him, was so heartwarming. he was so right, so natural, so healthy for her. she called him her personal sun, always making her feel better whenever she was in his presence. and i fell in love with jacob. unlike edward and bella, this lacked the sense of inevitability, since what she felt for him could not equal what he feels for her. but you just feel the need to support jacob, because he was part of her soul, a necessary part that gave her happiness. in bella's words,
"his pain was my pain."
"his joy was my joy."

now, cannot be certain if it was said in those exact same words, but you get the gist. jacob is perfect for bella, he's just not what she wants. as much as i like bella being with edward, i miss how she was with jacob (before edward came back).

edward's a century-old soul, so his maturity sometimes seems at odds with bella, who's actually no older than you and i. when they're together, sometimes it's either very hard to tell that the protagonist of the story is just a teenager, which of course doesn't make the story very credible (if you can believe in vampires and werewolves), or the difference in maturity is glaringly obvious. either way, though, i have to admit that they cannot live without each other, that they are too dependent on each other to be separated.

with bella and jacob, however, it's a much more believable story. their relationship appears more like how teenage relationships should be - carefree, fun, happy, with the infrequent squabble that further defines their youth. jacob just seems to bring out the sunnier side of bella. the occasional immaturity feels like it belongs there. i's such a natural part of a youthful relationship, and you just can't help rooting for this one to hold on and survive, even though you know that jacob has no sliver of a chance at all with edward around.

in short, i love jacob, and think that he didn't get the fairytale ending he deserves when stephanie meyer leaves him bella's leftovers (yeah, i cheated a bit by finding out about the ending from reviews). in the end, jacob finds his soulmate in (or imprints on) bella and edward's daughter! now, don't be too alarmed, because in the novel, it's a natural thing, not sick at all, as it's not about carnal desires. and since werewolves don't age as long as they keep phasing back into wolves, jacob will be the best big brother to bella and edward's daughter until she's old enough to resume their relationship at a more mature level.

however, i think it's just not right for jacob! jacob deserves something better! way better! if i had my way, there'd be a separate series for jacob to find this other person. but it's not my series, sadly. =( i guess fanfiction's the only way to go from here...

yess! we're not such losers after all!
(okay, maybe we still are, in a sense...)

dan and i thought that the extent of our prelim-end celebrations
was only the carrefour and spotlight browsing after the disastrous history paper

but then we went to the zoo today!
and then to the singapore science center!
are we cool or what? haha

that meant all of us
(dan, pat, jerrald, keed and i)
hung out for twelve hours straight
about 3 hours spent talking
and the rest totally on our feet

stupendous achievements, comrades! hahaha

keed was crazy, as usual
you know what to expect when you bring him along
(haha jjk!)

keed-kraziness: keed being shipped off- we wish! lol

more keed-kraziness: being eaten by crocodile- again, we wish! lolol

we managed to cover two zoo shows, hippos, giraffes, cheetahs, kangaroos, Inuka the Mad, the playground, dinosaurs, two meals, ice hockey, three hours of speech, and science, all in one day!
we even made a few drawing masterpieces for public display!
(haha- tofu and the eclipse-causing school prowlers were featured)

pat, me, dan- covering kangaroos!

and!- we even made it to "zouk"
(nah, i lied; we didn't...
just that the psychedelic floor of the science centre was so disco-esque)

so-called zouk: the funfunfun floor

okay, so even if we did go out and have fun after prelims
we ain't that cool after all...
haha
now, instead of being loser jc2s, we're just childish jc2s
but it's so fun being kids!
jurong bird park next!
hahaha

i really had fun searching up bushisms
(even his name sounds stupid!)
thought i'd do mccainisms next...
hmm, mccainisms just doesn't seem to have the same ring as bushisms...

"In the 21st century, nations don't invade other nations"
-about Russia's military action against Georgia

hmm, really? what about I-wreck? and yet he said

"Make it a hundred...That would be fine with me."
-to a questioner who asked if he supported President Bush's vision for keeping U.S. troops in Iraq for 50 years

"The role of the vice president is to break ties in the Senate and inquire daily into the health of the president."
- McCain.
('nuff said)

So, we all know the McCains are filthy rich, and spend money like there's no tomorrow, right?
I mean, his wife wore over $220,000 worth of stuff at the RNC.
and mccain accuses obama of being elitist?!
michelle's outfit only costed around $1000
and the obamas own only one house...

When Jay Leno asked how many houses mccain owns, he said this:

"Could I just mention to you, Jay,
that in a moment of seriousness I spent five and a half years in a prison cell.
I didn't have a house, I didn't have a kitchen table, I didn't have a table, I didn't have a chair."
--once again playing the POW card, "Tonight Show" interview, Aug. 25, 2008

and to highlight the shadiness of his dealings, in another interview:

"I think -- I'll have my staff get to you. It's condominiums where -- I'll have them get to you."
--after being asked how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own, interview with Politico, Las Cruces, N.M., Aug. 20, 2008

"We have a lot of work to do. It's a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq-Pakistan border."
--referring to a border that does not exist, ABC News interview, July 21, 2008

(gee, how's the situation on the US-Afghanistan border?)

"There are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods today."
--prior to visiting a Baghdad market while being flanked by 22 soldiers, 10 armored Humvees, and two Apache attack helicopters

and lastly, his chauvinistic pig-headed side, which actually seems to propagate a view that women liked being raped and beaten:

"Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, 'Where is that marvelous ape?'"
--a joke McCain reportedly told during his first Senate race in 1986
(PIG! DICK!- admittedly, it's in the past, but i'm scolding his past self - ARSEHOLE!)

and just as a treat, here's the funny jon stewart epsiode on sarah palin's gender card

omgosh, jon stewart is the greatest!
(well, i haven't seen what colbert has to say about it yet)
you should go youtube-ing and search his take on the RNC Day 4
the similarities between mccain and bush's speeches are astounding!

priceless george bush!

I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.
- US President George W. Bush (September 29, 2000 in Saginaw, Michigan)
(yes! fish can swim!)

I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family
- US President George W. Bush (January 27, 2000 in New Hampshire)
(so that your table can eat them?...)

"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it."
- Governor George W. Bush
(right. and that's not paper you're reading from, it's compressed pulp from trees)

"We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe."
- Governor George W. Bush
(and Singapore has a firm commitment to the Peru-Singapore FTA; we are a part of Peru)

'I heard somebody say, "Now, where's Mandela?" Well, Mandela's dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas.'
- US President George W. Bush
(well, nelson mandela just celebrated his 90th birthday not too long ago...)

'I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep on the soil of a friend.'
- on visiting Denmark, Washington D.C., June 29, 2005
(yes, RIP)
